Digital enabled business model 4 - Some focused, some coherent and many disparate approaches. What are the reasons and how successful have they been?
Going beyond the digital store-front, the traditional business would have also established systems of exchange, systems of engagement with customers, partners, suppliers and contractors. There would be robust ability to transact, order-to-fulfilment, procure-to-pay integration and the link to services. The advantages are the traditional business having undergone a cultural change to be a technology enabled business and would have digitally enabled traditional business processes for typical process efficiency improvements. The disadvantages are the business would have missed out the art of the possible by not having a coherent strategy for exploiting digital and emerging technologies. This could provide a strong foundation to build on the strengths to develop into a Digital enabled business however, may require one more transformation effort to consolidate and optimise to a coherent whole.
Does this appear familiar? What are the causes for this disparate and incoherent implementation?
