Digital enabled business model 3: Adjacent or overlay to traditional business entity

Adjacent or Digital overlay to the traditional business entity: This is the classic employed by most traditional businesses. As part of this model, there would be the digital store-front with integration to social media. Common aspects are Digital marketing, a robust customer relationship management, order fulfilment, customer service management and robust analytics. There would be integration with traditional IT systems of records and employees would have internal digital enabled equipment. There would also be a Digital enablement of the the supply chain. The advantages are that this would allow for safe extension of the existing models without significant modification to existing business processes. The disadvantages are that the evolution could be slow and encumbered by the bureaucracy and legacy technologies.

How many of the traditional businesses which employed this model still thriving and successful? Which ones are struggling or failed and if they have, was it due to the failure of the digital elements of the business model?
